UMAR (The University of the Sea) is a public institution of higher education and scientific research in Oaxaca, with the support and recognition of the Federal Government. It has three campuses: Puerto Angel, Puerto Escondido and Huatulco. Among the functions of the university are the teaching, the research, and the diffusion of the culture and the promotion of the development at regional, state and national levels.

The professional education at UMAR (University of the Sea) requires a full schedule and curriculum, in which students and teachers and investigators interact among each other in theoretical classes, personalized tutoring and field trips.

The educational model of the university is developed in modern facilities located in a safe environment that allows the professional training according to the needs of a changing world. The university also offers libraries, auditoriums, computer rooms, laboratories, scientific investigation centers, a language center and cafeterias at all three campuses.
